Who we are
We are one of 11 Medtech and In vitro diagnostics Co-operatives (MICs) across England awarded major funding from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Newcastle In Vitro Diagnostics Co-operative aims to ensure that better diagnostics are available as quickly as possible for patients. Our highly skilled methodologists efficiently evaluate new diagnostics. We work collaboratively with developers to generate a portfolio of evidence as they bring their diagnostics to the UK healthcare market.
Our independent expert support includes:
- Engaging with decision-makers and users to identify the best use of diagnostics
- Design, set up and analysis of clinical studies that examine the accuracy and utility of diagnostics
- Health economics to explore the impact of diagnostics on the healthcare system
We focus on diagnostics that tackle unmet needs in:
- Ageing and long-term chronic conditions
- Infection
- Stratified medicine
We support diagnostics at Technology Readiness Level 3-7. We can signpost developers to other members of our network if they are at a different stage.
We support applications to funding competitions as either a co-applicant, collaborator or sub-contractor.
We are a partnership between Newcastle Hospitals and Newcastle University and receive support from LifeArc.
