Walk All Over Cancer 2021
Our methodologist, Dr Jana Suklan, will be walking 10,000 steps every day this March to raise money for live-saving cancer research.
Thousands of steppers across the nation are coming together this March to join the fight against cancer. Jana Suklan, Clinical Test Evaluation Methodologist within the NIHR Newcastle In Vitro Diagnostics Co-operative (NIHR Newcastle MIC), will be joining them. She hopes that by completing this challenge she will help Cancer Research UK reach their goal of 3 in 4 people surviving their cancer by 2034. Recently Jana has been working on a project that is focused on developing a new diagnostic test for prostate cancer. This is an opportunity for her to support further advances in cancer research.
Jana said:
“Now that COVID-19 has become our everyday companion, we must not forget that this is not the only health condition that affects our lives. During lockdown, many areas of clinical research have faced major drawbacks. I am very passionate about research especially when this can have a positive impact on saving lives. There are too many examples of cancer taking away our loved ones. As a researcher my everyday work is focused on finding better ways to diagnose and eventually treat patients with health conditions, among which cancer is the most predominant one. This month I want to commit myself to take 10,000 steps a day for people who need help and support. This will help raise funds for a great cause and for areas of research that have clearly been hit a lot because of this pandemic.”
