Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
The NIHR Newcastle MIC represents a collaboration between the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Newcastle University.
Newcastle Hospitals hosts the NIHR Newcastle MIC, with around half of the team employed within the Trust.
Newcastle Hospitals is an ambitious Trust. It is one of the largest and most successful teaching hospitals in England, providing academically led acute, specialist and local community services to patients across the UK and around the world.
The NIHR Newcastle MIC was founded on clinical excellence and clinical research accessibility:
- Newcastle Hospitals is one of just five trusts in the country to have been awarded an “Outstanding” rating by the independent health and social care regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), in two consecutive assessments.
- Newcastle Hospitals has been ranked within the top three trusts in the country for recruiting patients to clinical trials.
We are committed to helping Newcastle Hospitals deliver its vision: achieving local excellence and global reach through compassionate and innovative healthcare, education and research.
As such we strive to be pioneers, ensuring that the NIHR Newcastle MIC is at the forefront of health innovation research. We are helping Newcastle Hospitals to achieve its aim: to enable as many patients as possible to take part in and benefit from cutting-edge clinical research. We work closely with Michelle O’Rourke, the Commercial Manager (Medtech) from the Newcastle Joint Research Office, who works across Newcastle University and Newcastle Hospitals to develop relationships with, and act as a point of contact for, non-pharma commercial partners.
