I have over 40 years experience working within Health and Social Care, having trained as a Registered Nurse. I also hold a qualification in Social Work, along with a Diploma in Management.
My most recent work role was that of a Clinical and Professional Advisor with the Care Quality Commission assisting with inspections of residential and nursing homes to ensure that service users received the highest level of care.
I have an understanding of how the NHS functions due to my role of Staff Governor at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust. I am an APEX Member, with Newcastle Hospitals, which is advising the patient experience.
Having a background in health care has developed my interest in medical research, especially in long term and acute conditions. My main interest is diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Joining the Newcastle MIC insight panel will allow me to assist in improving areas of research for the benefit of patients, public and carers.
