Miles Witham is Professor of Trials for Older People at Newcastle University and Lead for the Ageing and Long-Term Chronic Conditions theme within the NIHR Newcastle MIC.
His research focuses on improving physical function and quality of life for older people, using a wide range of interventions, including pharmacological agents, nutrition, exercise and strategies of care. He is building capacity across the UK to conduct trials for older people and improving the way these studies are designed and delivered.
Miles is also National Specialty Lead for Ageing within the NIHR Clinical Research Network and deputy theme lead for Ageing Syndromes within the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre. These positions help Miles to facilitate the sharing of expertise and improved use of resources across the different NIHR infrastructure.
