Publishing research
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) not only expects but requires all publications by NIHR Newcastle MIC funded and supported researchers to include the funding/support acknowledgement. The NIHR monitors these references to Newcastle MIC and uses them to measure our performance. Future funding for the NIHR Newcastle MIC is therefore dependent on our success in this area.
This statement may be placed in the acknowledgement section of a publication. It may also be placed in supporting information provided there is a linking statement in the main publication. It is not sufficient to place the acknowledgement only in author’s affiliations.

It is vital that MIC funded and supported researchers let the MIC know when they are about to publish research. This information is treated in the strictest confidence but allows the core team to prepare and liaise with the NIHR, University and Hospitals Trust press teams in order to maximise coverage as soon as any press embargoes are lifted.
Please notify the MIC team of any planned publications and press releases through e-mail at: nihr.newcastle.mic@newcastle.ac.uk.
If possible send a copy of accepted publications 28 days before it is due to be published so it can be recorded and sent to NIHR for review.
Let the MIC team know of any press releases at least 14 days before the planned issue date.
